the expedition
day minus 1 (sep 29-30th 06) reachin manali...
the expedition is supposed to b my experiences durin my basic mountaineerin course trainin although i used to b really busy there but i wrote a few diary entries wen i had a free time the followin was my first entry wen i was onthe bus to manali
"the voyage has started its the first time i m findin myslef alone on a trip wel i thk this would b my tryst wit findin myself and a true backpacker would come out.mom dad were in tears but still it dint made me deter i had go then no backin out
the only thing at that on my mind was my camera i dint take it wit myself all i knew was that my fu%#er frnd tushar was supposed to bring the cam direct to manali n we had fixed up to meet in manali bus stop wher i had nvr gone before
the bus ride was far frm comfortable i had 2 seats for myslef but as the mountains started i felt a lil dizzy n slowly slowly ppl arnd me started to vomit it was like they wer waitin for my turn to do the same the bus's window dint used to open the place was stinkin wit ppls smell it was killin me... n in the end it happ i vomitted too but no wrries after a 14-15 hr journey manali was here "
arnd 12.30 i met tushar there he had one more guy 'yogi' wit him he was also had come for the same course tht is B.M.C it was our first time in manali so we took a cab n reached the institute
as we reached the place the institute looked really impressive really beautiful n the dorm was quite gud better than i had expected they hav maintained it quite well..
we jst took off frm the place after keepin our stuff n chekin into our dorm the day me n tushar went to manali market frm ther we went to see the hippie ppl to old manali n all the rnds were done by walkin but as it was our first day we dint care n we dint knew abt the things to come otherwise we wd hav saved our energy
day 1(oct 1 06)
it was the first day of our trainin we had pt at 6 in the mornin...did a jog of abt 1.5 km the first day n a bit of exercise which was quite easy arnd 7.30 we had lunch n then at 9.30-10 we had to get in our i cards made n registration done uske baad we met our senior instructor n course incharge mr rajeev sharma (an everester)in the lecture hall he told us all sorts of things abt mountaineerin n the institute Dmas but one thing which was remarkable in that was the thing he said abt the 'Call of the mountains' ( once ur in the course u'll feel lot of times that y ur doin this course n y the hell u ve urself into this shit!! but once the training is done n ur bak in ur place the person gets a call bak to the mountain n yes i personally this is absolutley true ) ther was also talk abt reason a person climbes mountain n it had a really easy answer because they r just there coz the mountains r ther to climb to tame them n some1 has to do it..
durin the evenin we saw raid de himalaya cars comin in to our institute the place was their pit stop n the race was to finish there itself after completion of the whole route..i made lots rally ppl my frnd..chekin the enthusiasm of ppl there abt rally racin was really catchy
day 2
today at 6 we guys woke up in our dorm ppl used to wake up quite early than us tea was given at 5.30 me n tusar dint used to drink it n utilize this precious time in sleepin :P
on this day u can say our first taste wit things to come was done we did a 5k run in the woods n then exercises endin up wit push ups n stuff...7.30 breakfast as ususal the food sucked frm day 1 lol at 9 we went for rock climbin they gav us a gud lecture abt climbin techinques n the equipments which wer used for mountaineerin or rc knowledge of knots is really imp n we wer taught those from day 1 we did light rock climbin whci was quite easy to do
after comin bak they assigned our ropes the grp as of whole had 54 memb 1 girl aswell she looked like a guy anywy no rope can hav 2 ppl frm the same state execpt himachal...although while the rope was being chosen i played some trick n got into rope 1 whose rope leader was none other than tushar our rope had 7-8 members me n tushar(delhi) the no 2,then andy (german),kapil(up),nandu, roshanlal(hp) n Mr rao(karnatka)
apart frm ropes there were otehr posts to b grabbed to
course senior>>>c.v rao a.k.a roy(super scientist) selectin him as the senior was the stupidest n biggest mistake on behalf of every1 vaise i dint vote for this guy wen the votin was happenin
quarter master>>>andy..his job was to look after the food this guy was handlinall the food that was handled to us
equipment incharge>>>shivam frm lucknow..this was the most tough responsiblily lookin after all the equipmen n shyt gettin scolded by instructers for evry other reason
day3
each day the pain was supposed to increase n as it used to happen it was true n we did a 7k run this time n they dint used to allow use to wear gloves or wear caps but anywy the went at the same schedule 7.30 break fast at 9 leave for rc come bak at 2.30 for lunch then we usedto hav lectures on some stuff 4.15 was tea time on day 3 i thk they made us go for obstacles they were fun but i dint really use to enjoy doin obstacle race
we used to get dinner at 7.30 pm n evry nite at 9 we had to fall in for gettin the info abt the next days prgram
me n tushar used to run away to the market wenver we used to get free(we werent allowed to go to market) initially we skipped dinner n spent money outside only
day 4
6am jog for 8 ks
7.45 breakfast
8.45 rockclimbin
2.30 lunch
3.15 lecture
4.15 tea
4.30 6.30 obsctale race
here the schdeule was such that we nvr used to get free time durin rc climbin all kinds of rock faces n believe they were really tough the technique had to b spot on n also it requires strenght in arms for pullin up in the begining i was really afraid of climbin on rocks as i felt i ll fell down but i got down over the fear i realised after practicin more no matter wat i ll fall down but ijst abt taking ur time n grabbin the right holds n goin up..we were taught descendin aswell whch was a lil more tricky then climbin up
day 5
the went along the same schedule only significatn thing was that my rope was changed to rope 4 i got new mates there..rope changin thing was really shatterin for me it was all due to one camera we both were sharin tushar n i wer visbly depresed n dejected after ebign separted day 5 was for the rappelin day i felt quite out ofit in the practice wen i was wit my rope but anywy the abseiling was the easisest thing to do it had all the adrenaline rush one needed descendin down __rly wit really fast speed the mechanical abseilin was done a 100ft high cliff n i went down first n the rush ti gav me cannot b defined
the 2 other classical rabseilin techniques were easy aswell
day 6
8k run
the day went down to rock climbin practice
day 7
it was the adam day whic maent it was like holiday after all these dys we were workin so hard so intrucotrs gav us a free day n we enjoyed it alot i went to vashist wit 3 of my frnds tusahr nviru n nittu
the hot water sulpher bathtub vashisht is also a gud hippie joint so we guys went to some hippie cafe wher my fnds frm shimla got enuf hash frm an american
also on this day i played tennis wit andy 6-3 ,3-6 the match was a draw but anywy i had a gud time
so after 7 dys of workin hard i shd tel u abt the injuries i was sufferin frm uptil now
i had blisters on both feet the pain was huge i had pain win legs ankle n alsmost evertoher part of my body butnothin serious
day 8
it was jumaring day in whic we were atught abt climbin up the rock face wit the help of an intrumetn called jumar it wasnt dat easy lol
day 9
today we did somethin new n really different
it was the river crossin day
this 1 thing was most adventrous n one of the dangorous thing i did
we did 2 types of river crossin
the water was freezin cold
in first one which was cold fordin
we were roped up n had to cross the river horzontally n takin the stream on frm the frnt the water freezin cold n soo fast gav me a kick evrytime it touched the dry part of my body in the end i was all wet in water but yea comin bak to fordin we were suppsoed to drag our feet on the river bed no takin it up or else we wd hav lost control but the thing was all the moment i was doin this river crossin i dint lose the rope i had to hold on to n i kept shoutin so that i can keep away the fear...nyea i was really nervous n the faer was too much but the water itslef took outall the fear out of me after fordin
i was turn for tarloine traverse
they tied wit the rope n wit the help of the rope n pulln ur arms u had to cross the river in this we actually dint had to go into the river n ur jst above the river if u lose the rope then ur on the support of ur safety seat harness only
day 10
it was rock climbin test day
the rock craft was over n now it was time for the test
before the start i started practicin on a rock witout any safety rope n inthe end it was bang i fell down really badly n my left knee was hurt it was all bleedin this was first big injury i got durin the trip
but i had to give the test the test went fine but wnever my leg touched the rock it hurt really painfully
day 11 manali to solang
these were our last few hrs in manali as we wer abt to move to the base camp although i was quite happy to leave manali as i had got bored wit the same schedule each day n nite so this was i thought to b a gud chnage....later though i chnged my mind...
anywy
the trek to basecamp( abhi tak i dint knew the name of it) was to b done in phases n allthe journey was to b done by trekkin whihc was a big physical workout i m tellin u :)) before leavin manali i shd tel u wat all the stuff i was carryin witmyself
these guys had given me a 'ruck sack' a.k.a 'dukh sack' volume of 60 litres..blue in color wit many pockets the sack was loaded wit
1.sleeping bag>>>took most of the space of the sack
2.helmet n harness
3.koflach shoes>>>these were the shoes for travellin on ice n snow 4-5kgs in weight
4.gaiters>>>stuff wored over koflach to protect shoes inner frm snow or watver
5.personal clothes
6.tent mat
7.crampons on top
the rucksack i dint really got its weight measured but believe it was really heavy n i thk it was arnd approx. 20 kgs or may b more
on day 11 we had to move to solang a ski resort near manali the trek was of 16kms but on the mountains its nvr really abt the kms!!!
we started at 9 n reached the place arnd 3 or 4 for the first time i carried the sack for so long nthen i realised how tough this thing is on the way up i fell down quite alot some times on rock, water, river stream everythin the trek becaem the toughest durin noon as it was really hot then n i was losinlot of fluids my shoulders pained alott n i was really relieved wen the burden of the sack got off it...i was half dead wen i reached solang they gav us tents to live
the pain today jst shot up to infinite limits compared to the day before i dint knew that it ll b that tough
we gained height of arnd 4000ft today so it was neccesary for us to go for acclimitisation trek this time without sack we went to a temple...it started rainin really heavily there all my clothes got wet but still i kept on walkin although it was aplace of gods i wasnt likin it there to me it was a really grim enviormetn wit black sky cold wind n heavy rain for the first time on this trip i got that sad to see such thing n frm here things began to change as goin was gettin tougher each day..the next day awaited us another challenge to conquer
day 12 acclimisation trek towards patal suk
from now on we no longer had to wake up for pts n i cd sleep a lil more so on this day we werent supposed to leave for base camp instead we went for another acclimitisation trek to 'patalsuk' peak the height was 14900ft
jst before we were abt to leave i wrote an entry the exercpts frm that are as follows
"the first thing i can think of is home yest was the toughest day of them all carried the 20kg sack for 16kms..i tht where i ve put myself into its all pain arnd cant think of anything else other than pain pain n more pain...
but i thk this is wat adventure is...the tent was really beautiful i wasa able to sleep im almost half way thru my course now i want to finsih off wit this asap nowwanna talk wti mom dad feel like goin home but i knw that ll only b done wen its 26th its 7.45 am here we r trekkin towards patalsuk lets see how it goes!!!"
in the beginning the trek to the top seemed easier as i dint had to carry any weight today i jst had a day sack wit me wit some food n chocolates here i made a mistake of carryin too many clothes wit me they werent needed at all i shd hav left them at the tent coz once the temp rises n wen u go up u expend alot of energy n that turns into heat its all sweaty..as we started goin up it became diff for me to walk up therz a funny thing abt mountains wen u go top of a ridge u see another ridge on top of it n then again another ridge its like a vicious circle it nvr ends...n fuks u up...our aim was to climb n descned the peak by 2 pm.....we ended the tree line which was also a really difficult task n above that we left all villages behind once the tree line was done the slopes were all grassy n u cd see hash n marijuana farmin being done here n there but i dint had time to see these stuff it was time to focus on one maint hing that was to reach the top the patalsuk mountain was really beautiful had different color n sahde the trees that came were huge...
as it was an acclimitisation trek whiche was gettin used to the increasin height stuff like breathin n walkin up....
as i reached above 10k it started to become tougher n tougher each step n the amt of breathing i was doin...
my spped strated to slow down initially iwas goin up at gud pace but its nvr abt the speed on the mountains coz urnot competin in here wit any1 i took beraks in bet n at one pt wen i crossed 13,500ft i began toexhaust high altitude disease symptoms started to show i was gettin a headache this was due to de hydration but i kept on goin up...wen i reached 14k i took a break for a while to wait for my frnd tusahr to come up to me who was 30 mins behind me...
at this pt i cd see the peak within my reach n the sky above it all the mountains sorrouned me i felt like taht i was in heaven as i sat down there for a while i began to see the view down the valley the steeep gorge the peak made breathtakin i was livin onthe edge...rite then i took out my cell n checked the signals r comin n i called my dad n told him where i m at this mometn i still cant describe that feelin this u can only get once u reach there all my pain went aweay it jst vanished "When you're going to extremes It takes adrenaline(You don't feel the pain)" frm the frnt of patalsuk u cd see rohtang pass n all the vehicles looked liketiny toys rollin arnd the mountain as i sat there in introspect the weather started to detiorate the peak was still 30 mins away frm me the weather was goin bad to wrose it satrted to white out n then bang it was snow n sleet comin down they asked us to descend n thats wt we did...one intrestin thing majority of the accidents occur while descending down n yes thts wt happ wit 1 guy in our grp how rolled down like boulder frm top untill he was saved by another boulder his leg stuck...n he stopped goin down the guy dislocated his shoulder n yea basic mountaineerin was over for him at atht right moment one silly mistake n u lose ur life its no joke there the guy dinesh wd hav died if his leg wdnt hav stuck in taht rock...some called him superman some called him krissh but the thign was wat happ to him cd hav happ to any other person aswell it was serious thing we were doin there i realised that!!!
day 13 move frm solang to bhakarthach
frm the beginnin i knew this day is gonna b the toughest one after the hardwork of last 2 dys the work was still not over i knew somwher in the bak of my mind that i had to reach the base camp in some or the other way n this time ill hav to carry the sack wit me but i had this feelin that if i m able to reach bakarthach wit the bag then i wont face many prbs n ti wd b normal thing after that
we left arnd 9 in the mornin frm solang we first travelled via road to dhundi which was the last village n after that it was all tree line n bushes frm solang dhundi is 8 kms the road way wasnt that tough exepct in the areas where we had to take short cuts thru woods....the last few dys hard work n pain was cathcin up to me n it only agrravated the injuries i had...i was exhausted by the anmt of work i did on patalsuk...im serious abt it this route almost killed me i could not walk n gain height anymore i lost all my will n confidence to reach the base camp then come dhundi n after that there was no road jst a trek on the lil ridges the moi ppl told us that now the camp is jst an hr away it was noon there n i agian made the mistake of carryin too many clothes...i had no option otherwise...moi ppl saw me that i was strugglin n offered to help me by holdin my day sack but still i had the ruck sack wit me.....as the time passed by i naturally got slower...the exhaustion was creepin in n all the bad things in my mind started to show n i used to feel like injurin myself intentionally so taht i can get away wit walkin soo much wenver i saw we r goin down frm the montain then i used to see another ridge comin right in frnt of me so ther was no escape...on our destination we crossed many rivers on wooden bridges these bridges were really intrestin too only 1 person was supposed to go at a tinme or else it ll collapse n on the river bridge the wind used to really fast which almost cd hav taken a person wit them down the stream it was suicidal of me to think of jumpin in the river but yea i wasnt obviously not gonna do that at arnd 1pm we reached a pt frm where jst had to climb one ridge n they said ki iske baad its jst plain n u ll able to see the base camp si determined myself that i m gnot gonna stop until i reach up the place n complete the ridge...the ppl frm himachal were really fast climbers....it was really shatterin to see a guy one mile ahead of u as i used to get left by these ppl n coverin up the distance was alwys on my mind so there used to few breaks n more slow but continous walkin after a 2 hr trek i was able to reach the base camp the view frm the place was undefinable iwas sorrounded by mountains all arnd in frnt u cd see the 7 seven sister mountains...n on the other sides there were various peaks like hanuman tibba, friendship ladhaki etc
after reachin there igot to drink tea n i foudn out tht its really cold arnd :)
we did a pracitcal on tent pitching n the day was over for us as we cd sleep now :))
day 14...heavy snow fall day
it was an intrestin day i can tell u...i wrote an entry today so here it goes...
"we started our trek from solang to bhakarthach which means a land wher shepherds bring their sheeps for rearin as the trek started it was gonna b tough but once i reached the 7 sisters the view was ethereal all my pain again went away cant explain why...frm this pt i cd see the base camp n it felt quitenear i got a new energy boost n as it was the last few steps to the camp n i saw the red flag it was a big relief for me
the base camp looked like a second world war concentration camp to me wit barbed wires n soldiers arnd to stop us frm runnin away we were all the prisioners there but we had a nice tent to sleep n really gr8 food we got to eat wit tomto soup inthe night that felt like heaven the food system wasintresstin too we had lunch boxes called messtins....my tent mates nandu, kapil, andy n tushar this was rope 1 tent n i was in rope 4 infact how i got into this tent is also a story but i ll tel u abt that sometime later:)
on 14th morning a nice litle surprise awaited us we had to wake up at 6 n trek for snow craft the mornin was really cold n then it started to white out...n then it started to snow this was the perfect start to my day i ve nvr seen snow or snow fall in my life n i cdnt imagine my happiness that time the intstructors due to heavy snow asked us to stay in the tent n relax so it was a gud relief after doin soo much of work for soo many days
a great start to snow in jst half hour all the sorroundin mountains n our camp was filled wit snow amzin day amizin feel...
day 15 snow craft day
today was our first interaction wit snow our instructors taught us abt basic diff bet snow n ice...n techniques of walkin on snow...side stepping single vertical double vertical zig zag how to avoid an avalanche while ascendin on snow duck steps n flat foot...thsi was the first time i had put on my special koflach shoes walkin on snow ...it was a really funny way to walk on snow...coz this snow was jst 2 feet so if u out foot on the wrong side n then urgoin down...n phir u agian get up n go up again it was quite tiring...descedinn was even more tougher
it req lot of hard work n keep it in ur miond that while climbin up on snow ur bound to slide down n same goes for descendin i preffered slidin though but our intrucotrs wanted us to go up wit the technique anywy we came bak after doin agud work out there
had a lecture in the eve
dinner ke baad the day was over
day 16 snow craft anchor n belay
today was our last day in snow craft n frm tom onwards we were supposed to go to beas kund glacier i was pretty excited abt that as i had nvr seen a glacier before we'll mopveo n ice climbin then but for now it was time to learn abt the equipment used to ascend a snow gulley.
the day wass really hectic....as we reached the field they asked us to go up to the of the snow gulley...the snow as really soft n not that deep so it was really diff to walk on it it took me more than an hour to climb up the gulley n seriously i can tell u as i was reachin the top it felt like climbin everest to me hehe...once i reached the end of the snow gulley i dint had the courage to look down as it was really steep...i dint realise while goin up that this place at such gr8 height on the way there were few crevasses which we had to avoid...while going down though i preffered the slidin than to actual technique n then eventually arrestin my fall(thts wt we learned later on in the day )
the fresh white snow was really beautiful to see but difficult to walk ther was also another prb of path made by others it was really amzin to travel on an untouched area of snow...due to others the area was really slippery n i fell down quite many times my knee kept hurtin me..n this is wen my knee injury started to give me prbs that i dint had earlier...
later in the day the instrucotrs taught us the self arrest n belay on snow durin a fall...n after that we learnt various techniques of makin an anchor on snow field the likes of snow bollard usin ice axe..snow stack etc...
day 17...cramponing
for the next 3 dys onwards we were gonna b workin on ice n learnin ice techniques...
today we left a lil early as the beas kund glacier was atleast an hour's walk away...it was difficult coz we had to adjust to varryin terrain first crossin two ridges n then goin down n walkin on the morains....which was really difficult it was quite easy for one to slip on morains n fractuer ur ankle or at worst situation u cd get stuck there for hrs at one place...the whole morain area was really confusin as everythin looked the same n one cd get lost their forver hehe but yea dat dint happ wit me luckily...
on this i learnt abt cramponing which was an important technique for walkin n the rest climbin techniques on ice.for that we attached special 12 head spikes on our koflach shoes...after the basic walkin techniques we learnt a few wys of climbin n belay methods on ice wit the use of ice axe which was qutie fun
climbin on ice was much more difficult than rock it was coz on ice the hands used to wet realy easily n gettin down wit a cold injury was really easy over there anyhow the day finished we got bak..the first day on ice went fine execpt the distance was too much
day 18 adavnce climbing methods n crevasse rescue n the great fall
on this day lot of things happened n in the end there were some significant things which decided my future in the course....
i knew the course was jst abt to finish we dint had much to do now as all the training was abt to get over...today we learnt a very important lesson of saving a casaulty who has fallen down in a crevasse...many ppl lose their lives by fallin down on crevases n thsi knwoledge of savin ones life was really useful
there were five techniques of creavss rescue whcih we learned..anywy the intrestin thign was to actually doin a practical on that in this i was made the first casualty n i was thrown into a crevase n the gusy then pulled me up i was upside down n ye i can tell u if anythin wrong had happ i wd hav def lost my life hehe...buit yea it was fun...good for team spirit n other stuff guys come along n save the other person its nice to see
after completin this rescue operation we went for double ice axe traction climbing....n here somtin happ which was actually not supposed to occur n yea its results wer disastrous
our rope was climbin an ice wall 70 deg in gradient the wall was arnd 20 feet high i was the last person to go up n i waited for my turn to come n as it came i geared up myself started climbin upwards obviously ther was a guy who was givin me belay in case i got a fall...i found climbin up reeally easy n in arnd no time i was at the top...wit my crampons n dual ice axe on both of my hands givin me support i was tied up on the top of the ice wall n then i was asked to come down...as i tried pull away prbs began to occur...my left hand ice axe jst got stuck on the ice n it was not gettin out no matter how i tried...it was actually i had got down too far down then they told me to go up again to the same place n bring the axe out n start descendin again...the more time u spent on tese things the more energy u waste which can prove fatal...in the end i took that axe out but i dint knew that i lost the axe on right hand while doin this it was hard work frm then on i hammered the axe into ice agian n again but cdnt find a hold..it was frustratin n yea i was gettin nervous too the ice had too many cuts due to the ppl who had climbed up before me...n yea then i knew it was gonna happen then it did bang!!!! i dint wat was happenin i went down gotta free fall my already injured knee banged n scrathchde wit the ice face....the rope i was tied too also went off i was upside down then n the ice axe!! well wat abt them i left them at top itself...the lazy belayer then in the end arrested my fall wen i was inches above hittin the grnd n killin myself...while the ppl came up to me n untied me frm my hangin position it was time for introspection i actually dint understood wat went wrong untill i saw my left foot shoe had come off!!!!...it was shockin to see i nvr really thought that i wd make such a silly mistake of not tieing up my shoe laces...this fall definately was spectacular n yea i can tel u i had a spectacular end to my basic mountaineerin course aswell...my mind was shattered at this pt..i cdnt thik i cdnt cry i was in a terrible mess...my knee was spewing blood all over i cd not walk i got a back strain scrathced my hands it was soo cold that i cd not even feel them up
n then it started snowing down really heavily i knew i had a gotta fever there...it was the last thign i wanted happen wit me there....its like watver prb u may hav its okay u can still carry on but once ur down wit fever its really hard then to give ur 100%...i started shiverin there but then it was the lunch break for us...i was hungry it was snowin heavy wind all my clothes were wet n i was not able to walk n then wat i get to eat there...it was kaddu wit 4 chapatis...a thign which i nvr ate in my life..but yea i realised wat survival is all abt i still rem the taste of all those 4 rotis i had on that 13000ft glacier while the snowfall..then i realised wat survival is all abt n its meanin for me changed forver... it was all or nothing for me
the whole day i was sick n i took rest dint had dinner at nite while the guys were camp firing n singin songs this was the worst time for me in whole of the course i was down n in a miserable position i had got 102 fever that time i had a huge head ache...i was waitn for the nite to get by n the next day mornin to arrive!!!
day 19 glacier travel
the mornin came the nite earlier i had taken some pills bt i still wasnt okay so then i decided to miss today's trainin n save myself from injurin again..as i had weakened up alot the prb i thk was more of mental than physical..but after that free fall my mind had got haywire i cd not concentrate at one stuff but i can tell u..while fallin down too i enjoyed alot there was one adrenaline rush in it
while i was in the tent i wrote my entry the last of my entries on the mountain:)
"im writng this entry as i stayed bak today i m a little sick at the moment...wem ur workin u hardly get a free time to do anythin else the person is busy concentratin in his own thing all day long...
its been long time since i got freee i ve been living here in the base camp for quite long now n my quest to find myself is jst abt to get over..i ve done seen such things here which i nvr b able to explain!! this place teaches u to achieve the feeling of being a mountaineer n believe me they r big shoes to fill ...i totally understand now of how tough a mountaineer journey is?
yesteday i fell down from a nearly vertical ice wall i just dint realise wat happ then it was soo fast my left shoe wnet off n i was goin down it took a long time for me to get normal there...
its been a long time in here n now i feel like goin bak home the normal life i was livin in my place but i m really confused abt which is the real life in here the way of livin in this place or the place where i came frm
after all this i m feelin lonely in here i need a shoulder to fall bak on n yes for sure i m missin my parents
\i ve been counting down the dys i gotta stay here its still snowin otuside i wonder wts the weather gonna b like tom for height gaining?"
day 20 height gaining
as it all started nothin seemed right i woke up at 3 in the mornin...ervyone started to gear themsleves up for the D day which was height gaining the training was over now it was time to put all the learned things into practice it was still dark out n really cold weather the snow fall nvr stopped that nite but all of us had to make a move for the thing i started to put koflach in my feet but it jst dint got in...had got all wit the negative feelin arnd me i jst dint seem to push myslef up for the task i gave in that moment n in two minds i decided that i wont go for the height gain test..at this mometn i regret not actually goin for this but yea at taht time i was broken in the head may b all pressure had got on me n i failed!!! i decidee to stay bak in the tent n yea it was really not that wrong decsion it was the worst day weather wise wit loomin snowstorm waitin for the ppl who went to camp 1 of shitidhar peak(17,200 ft)
the expedition is supposed to b my experiences durin my basic mountaineerin course trainin although i used to b really busy there but i wrote a few diary entries wen i had a free time the followin was my first entry wen i was onthe bus to manali
\i ve been counting down the dys i gotta stay here its still snowin otuside i wonder wts the weather gonna b like tom for height gaining?"
day 20 height gaining
as it all started nothin seemed right i woke up at 3 in the mornin...ervyone started to gear themsleves up for the D day which was height gaining the training was over now it was time to put all the learned things into practice it was still dark out n really cold weather the snow fall nvr stopped that nite but all of us had to make a move for the thing i started to put koflach in my feet but it jst dint got in...had got all wit the negative feelin arnd me i jst dint seem to push myslef up for the task i gave in that moment n in two minds i decided that i wont go for the height gain test..at this mometn i regret not actually goin for this but yea at taht time i was broken in the head may b all pressure had got on me n i failed!!! i decidee to stay bak in the tent n yea it was really not that wrong decsion it was the worst day weather wise wit loomin snowstorm waitin for the ppl who went to camp 1 of shitidhar peak(17,200 ft)
day 21 descendin to solang
it was diwali early mornin after like a 48 hr wait i could see the sun shinin bright n yea the whole place had changed it was all cocvered wit snow a beautiful view n
it was the start of coming bak to life n obviously i was damn happy the trek was fun jst took 2-3 hrs in i was in dhundi here i got the signals on my battery starivin cell phone enuf to call bak home n wish diwali to mymom the feelin was amzin n yea the love for my parents i cd feel it :)
day 22
wen we got bak to solang it was jst time to relax a lil n get bak to normal self many ppl had acquired injuries n also due to the bad weather the whole stuff frm the camp wasnt there so it was jst a slow walk to gettin normal self now every1 knew that the course is almost over we had one test to give the next day test of knots n yea abseilling but i wasnt thinkin of all that
i rem how i used to sit on the grassy slopes of solang n watch the world go by but in the eve i played soccer wi the guys n it was such a gud feelin i nvr felt so free in all my life before...i was jst goin thru the motions but still i wanted to go bak to manali all these lil stations had become temporary homes to me n ye in a lil way i was goin to bak to my real home dilli n i felt closer to it each min
day 23 test of knots n survival nite
hmm so actually we had one test god i had to wait for it so long..it wasnt really a test n i can say it was jst a formality to abseil down n name some equipments in my case it was a pretty gud chat wit my intructors whic i fondly rem abt some controversy n they really dint ask me any knots n i guess mst hav given gud marks :))
so yea therz a rumor flyin arnd that on 23rd nite we wd b havin a surivavl nite so actually it wasnt a normal nite for us they offered us the best meal in whole of the course but ther was no dinner we left for a nearby jungle wit our sacks n i rem being wit my rope ppl we found a shelter underneath a huge rock the nite was one of the best of i ve had all my life the advenutre of being out in the wild was somethin which cant explained infact all of things i did in the course wer like that only!!
day 24 trek to life
yea as it happ in the mornin we started our trek bak to life that was manali n yeain 2 hrs we wer tehre i was tired had blisters on my feet but still had the last dash of energy to go bak n yea it was all happines arnd hehe no prbs wit the sack too
anywy so it was a big time comin i came bak to manali tushar was content on sleepin so i left n went arnd the town n wen i saw all those ppl arnd my eyes jst lit up i felt inside that i ve changed n introspected dat this feelin wd nvr go away
day 25
on this day we had one written test n then we like had an interview wit the direcotr of the institute the basic course finally got over wen one recieved the marching orders frm the head of the institute n ye my buddy was in a lil hurry n he for some reason wanted to go bak jst on the same nite so we all rushed n carried our bags n left the place not before wen our course incharge put the ice axe batch on our shirts i felt really proud then it was like somthin i hav achieved this day n then only i realsied yea the basic course meant somthin really imp in my life
our farewell dint really ended ther i cdnt say bye to all the ppl especially our mam she was really sweet hehe anywy so nandu andy n raja came runin to the bus stand wher that local bus was jst abt to leave in the 20 mins n they gav us whiskey n some food to eat n the goinbak home was really emotional i was in tears n i m sure the feelin of belongingness to that wd nvr go away

the haunted house...
Field 1: Near M.H Dental HospitalDate: 25th May 2006Weather: Overcast windyLocation: N 28º 27’ 02.4”, E 77º 16’ 54.6”Altitude: 230 M.S.LTime: 5:30 A.M
Objective: was to go inside that haunted house which we invariably saw while goin out for a walk that early mornin in jhansi.
okay yea i went to this house like a week bak wen i was in jhansi it was me n my bro who were takin this video wit us there was a lil girl who called herself 'mona' the reason y i think the place was scary it was cause the other 3 people that are there in the video apart from me and my bro are actually not the persons whcih we knew them. they werent related to us. i believe the lady u see in the video was the real owner of that house n the 2 kids were her children but somehow they died and i think they were ghosts who were just intrested in showing their houses to us after askin the villagers who used to live nearby we got to knw that actually dat house was built by britshers but many families lived over there they said a witch was there in the kitchen but wen we were takin the video we dint went inside the kithcen coz we diont knew the way to the kithcen all of the families that livde in that house died due to unnatural reasons n uptill now nothin bad has happened to us but i believe its just due that the lady allowed us to go inside she was welcomin otherwise if u enter witout permission bad things r bound to happen wit u u can email me if u want to knw more as i cant type alot in heretarunluthra@gmail.com
